The safehouse. Sort of. There should be new arrivals, and I realized there's still nothing to allow them to have their own spaces, so even if we can just put up whatever the future equivalent of plywood is that's much better than nothing.
I meant to do this earlier but everything's kind of been a mess.
matter of fact, I think instead of plywood it might be both easier and sturdier to do it with two thin layers of metal sandwiching an insulating foam for better soundproofing
can I go to the hardware store, how time sensitive is this & do you have any strong opinions about individual sleep pods as opposed to entire tiny closet rooms? we can compensate for the floorspace we're taking away with the walls by working with vertical space
I'll defer to you on whatever you think is best and doable as far materials go; that's so not my area of expertise.
I know it's short notice, so as far as timing goes as soon as possible but is still reasonable for you. I really should've done this earlier.
[He'll have to find some sort of offering for Ian to make up for this because he already feels guilty about this on a few fronts, but he's trying to ignore that for now.]
I'm not necessarily against sleep pods but I'm concerned there might be people who are claustrophobic or even just want somewhere to change that's private, and tiny closets would be better for that. Maybe a little of both? We haven't had all that many new arrivals in each batch lately.
I think I can do a split mix, one wall for sleep pods one for smaller rooms. Obviously there'll be way fewer of those but I think we'll still net out in the positive with the pod stacking.
Okay, if you can give me an hour to get supplies I can probably get it done in two or three.
Don't forget there are still older arrivals living there, if you wanna go ahead of me and maybe ask them to collect their stuff for a bit from whichever area they're posted up in that might be a good idea
That sounds great. Let me know how much it all is and I'll pay you back, and thank you.
[But about the last part he hesitates, torn between his usual inclination to pretend everything is fine and just agree, and his recent attempts to actually be more honest with his friends and let them help. Therefore there's a delay of nearly a minute as he both decides how to reply and then convinces himself to actually do so.]
That's probably a good idea, but I don't really want to go back to the safehouse alone.
[It sounds utterly pathetic when put that way, but it's true.]
don't worry about it man, my last design got picked up by giles bell, I think I'm gonna be set.
Right, didn't even think about that. Alright, I'll text you when I'm headed there if you wanna wait outside for me. Unless you're one of those people that gets super excited in a Lowe's and you wanna smell the chemical sealants.
( Thank you for your honesty, Lance. He's trying to reply with supreme chill, not make it a big deal. )
[Whether or not the chill is purposefully put on, he appreciates it and this is about the best answer he could've hoped for.]
Texting when you're on your way would be great, thanks; I'll wait for you outside the garage. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to set foot inside of a future-Lowe's.
[The joke fear is, of course, much easier to admit to than the real ones. But the thought of future-Lowe's really is kind of terrifying.]

Lance, I love you but I'm not IN LOVE with you

But that said, the favor actually is basically the husband role of lifting things and building stuff, so you were close.

[So the space might not be a problem.]

Literally, the lawn and garden section's been reclaiming the bathroom fixtures section.
I'll let you know.
